When they are printed in large format, the technique used by Kristian Kaarna gives his photographs an unusual surface. The gaze is not drawn to a particular point on the surface, but is free to move around endlessly on the image, just as it does when you are looking at a real landscape. The dimensions of the exhibited works are about: H 100-200 cm x W 300 cm.

“I hope my photos will inspire everyone in their own way and from their own individual starting points. Although I aim to convey a profound experience of nature to my audience through my photos, each work contains part of my story and an impulse of my mind. Different people discover different things in my photos, because everyone finds their experiences reflected in them.” Kristian Kaarna.

“You are borne along in the stream of life even without taking a grim outlook”

Photographer Kristian Kaarna takes a serious and passionate approach to his work. This perpetual observer of nature works tirelessly to communicate his profound experiences of nature to his audience. However, he has learnt to take a less serious approach to life: “I have realised that you are borne along in the stream of life even without taking a grim outlook. Just as I am forever discovering the incredible beauty of nature, so I am also finding the joyful and fun side of life, not without a touch of irony at times.”

KRISTIAN KAARNA

Photographer Kristian Kaarna specialises in artistic photographs on the theme of nature. Especially when they are printed in large format, the technique he uses gives his photographs an unusual surface. The gaze is not drawn to a particular point on the surface, but is free to move around endlessly on the image, just as it does when you are looking at a real landscape. As you look at it, you can see large abstract forms, but also find plenty of details.

These impressive artistic photographs are also of high technical quality. They were produced using the Diasec® process, which provides protection against UV rays and pollution and is guaranteed to preserve their colouring for 100 years.

Born in Finland in 1969, Kristian Kaarna has been working as a photographer since 1997, having studied photography in Paris. He has worked abroad for many years, in Asia, South America and various European countries, but has always drawn inspiration from the spiritual Nordic landscape and the Finnish lakelands. Nature and its phenomena constantly manifest themselves to Kristian Kaarna as variations of colour, form and light. This infinite range of subjects is both concrete and abstract.
